Spooky goings on at the Sir Christopher Wren
What a spooktacular week it has been at the Wren!
This week the staff have been getting their creative carving caps on and getting into the feeling of Halloween.
All departments of the hotel received a pumpkin on Friday 26th October and were told to design something inventive. Each department was renamed to something spooky like Haunted Housekeeping, Spooky Spa and Monstrous Maintenance.
This is where the competitiveness really got going. Each pumpkin was shrouded in secrecy and each team made sure that no one else knew their plans.
At 11am on Halloween all pumpkins and staff were assembled in the Sienna room, curtains drawn, lights dimmed and candles lit for judging by our esteemed judging panel.
Jutta Staude, General Manager and local business woman (and owner of Flowerz – our hotel florist) Nicola Woodstock took the first discerning long look at our creations. Judging was very close, so head guest judge, Mrs Barlow, Group Operations Manager had to step in and help with the final decision.
The standing were as follows –
Highly commended -
- Horrible Human Remains (HR) for their Hamburger Pumpkin
- Screeching Sales and Revenue for their Royal Family
Highly commended for design -
- Frightening Finance, for their intricate and detailed carving of a witch stirring her stew
Third Place – Frankenstein’s Front of House with their ghoulish carving of Sir Christopher Wren
Second Place – Kitchen Nightmares with their take on pumpkin cannibalism
First Place – Revengeful Restaurant with their creation of ‘Bob’ the crazed waiter who had lost his mind during shift.
The pumpkins then went on display around the hotel, with many of our guests commenting on our creativity and taking pictures of them! If you were not lucky enough to see them in the flesh check out our Facebook page for more pictures.
Congratulations to all of you, your pumpkins were a sight to be seen. I am looking for my next competition for Christmas – If you have any ideas let me know!
Until next time!
