A Christmas Kiss
As we move into the festive season, there is always the question of what special little things to do for the guests at the Abbey. This year, we are putting together a Christmas Cocktail list to satisfy for all tastes. The headliner of this Cocktail list is the Christmas Kiss. A Christmas Kiss is a delicious and refreshing combination of gin, cranberry and ginger ale that is delivered in the most festive of colours, red.
A Christmas Kiss
To make your own Christmas Kiss, you are going to need:
Dry Gin – a Beefeater, a Tanqueray or Bombay Sapphire
Cranberry Juice
Ginger Ale
Being a simple cocktail to mix, you are also going to need some crushed ice, a sprig of mint and a few fresh cranberries if you can lay your hands upon them. The Christmas Kiss is best served in a short tumbler – the kind of glass you would serve scotch in. Those in the business would know this as a rocks glass.
You begin by filling the glass halfway with the crushed ice, adding the gin of your choice, then topping up with equal measures of the cranberry and ginger ale. You should then add the mint and fresh cranberries to the glass to garnish.
If you are a real gin fanatic you will want to experiment a little with this recipe to find something that matches your taste buds, and you will already be aware of the variety of flavours in different gins. The addition of any citrus fruit brings a different character to the drink and a dash or two of Angostura bitters can wring out some of the dryness of the gin.
If you wish to try the original as it was intended, put your feet up in the Priory Bar at the Abbey and one of the staff will serve you your very own Christmas Kiss.
Ho ho ho
