The bank holiday weather was a promising start to what we were hoping to a blazing May. The Chilli festival at Eastnor – Castle 5 & 6 May – was the second year of the festival and a sell out, with the sun beating down it made the event a real ‘hot’ one.
This is a great day out for all the family with the most amazing artisan food stalls selling food from across the world in the beautiful surroundings of the castle court yard. Live music filled the air, and cookery demos were a master class on their own and of course the event everybody came for, ‘the chilli eating competition’ all events were set with the stunning back drop of Eastnor Castle and grounds. We made a day of it and walked around the lovely grounds and lake. Great day out and will definitely put it in the calendar for 2014.
The sunny days were short lived and as the three counties show ground saw the setting up of the Malvern Spring Garden show the weather really turned and the rain came.
This typical English weather was good for the many stands and stall holders selling country clothing and designer knit ware. The stunning selection of footwear and wellington boots also brought great crowds and the need for that second pair of gardening shoes. The selection of gadgets and the latest in gardening equipment filled the avenues of trade stands but there was a more tranquil setting to be had in the show gardens many of which won awards from the RHS judging.
The impressive marquees hosted the best example of the floral displays and the nursery stalls were seen to have a brisk trade especially at 4.00pm when the show closed and they were selling every last plant including the floral displays and planting from the show gardens.
The Malvern spring garden show, 9 May – 12 May 2013, is the start of the RHS flower show calendar that continues with Chelsea on the 21 May 2013. Next year the spring garden show is 8 – 11 May 2014 a date for your diary.
