Fun for the Kids…

I took my daughter and nephew to The West Midlands Safari Park, two weeks ago, and we had a fantastic day out. The park has four fantastic miles of self-drive safari, with close encounters all along the route. For a small fee you can purchase animal food to feed the tamer of the animals, such as the deer and goats (the kids loved this). The Three Counties Agricultural Show in Malvern

It’s time again for the Agricultural Show held every year at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern. The show is a huge event for the rural counties of Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire. It is where farmers and breeders bring their prize livestock to be shown and judged. There are many skills contests such as sheep shearing and smithing. This year’s show will feature a variety of special events such as a surprise visit by comedians Rory McGrath and Paddy McGuinness, who will be dropping in during the second leg of their nationwide tour for ‘Rory & Paddy’s Great British Adventure’....

Peace and quiet…

Whilst walking on the Malvern Hills last week, I started thinking how precious peace and quiet is. The “hills” change daily, in their colours and textures, and the view never ceases to impress. You could walk the hills weekly and each time have a different experience with different photos. So when people ask, has ‘Britain Got Talent?’ I think of the hills and the talent Britain has for amazing countrysides, and not the TV show. Hooray! It’s asparagus season!

The British asparagus season has officially started and will run until the end of June, so make the most of this delicious vegetable whilst it’s available. Asparagus is very climate dependent; the temperature of the soil must be at least 10ºc before it will begin to grow, so if it has been a warm spring then it is possible to see the first asparagus spears on the shelves by late April. Asparagus growers in the warmer, south of the country will traditionally harvest their crop first around April – growers further north may not start until a few days later....
